Look Out… Narcissism is Real

  1. Listen to me! This is such a perfect summary. I’ve only recently come to understand I’ve been in a lifelong relationship with a narcissistic parent and the thing that gets me most is hope that they’ll change. It’s what keeps me tempted to reason with someone who’s proven themselves, again and again to be unreasonable. It is really about believing nothing you do or say can make them change. Die hope! Die!

    1. My heart goes out to you and people who have parents who suffer from this condition. Narcissism came to my attention from a guy I recently dated. He warned me that it’s a trait that runs in his family and I thought all they need was love. I was naive! I understand you trying to reason with them as I would try that same route. Unfortunately, it appears that you will eventually get drained. I thought and believed that love heals all. 🤷🏾‍♀️

      1. Right?! I thought so too, but this is advanced level adulting! It’s really a tough thing to deal with because you want to be in a relationship with the person and you can imagine that relationship to be a good one…if they would only behave RATIONALLY! It is not rational to treat someone badly and expect them to be okay with that. Alas, like you said, you’ll just use up your energy and “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. Plus OPRAH said (hahaha) when someone shows you who they are, BELIEVE THEM! Hahaha. The hardest thing is to know and accept the reality of the situation though (maybe hahaha).
